Well, after months and maybe even years of thinking about it pros, cons and what not I decided to start a blog. I will start with Chromecast in which my excellent wife purchased me for Christmas this year.
For around 30 dollars my significant other purchased this item off of Amazon. I did a little research and decided it would be an excellent gift given the possibilities it holds. I am a BIIIG time photo/video guy and most who know me know that my camera is not far away from me. Even at work through this lovely snow storm my personal camera is not far away...
Enough about me. At any rate I decided that I love my local media enough to invest a little money into it so here we are. Welcome aboard google Chromecast.
Not withstanding all the ranting and raving yes, youtube, hulu, netflix works excellent with this little device. However, as I previously stated I love my local media and for the life of me could not figure out how to stream it to my big screen. I watch in the " distance " a lot of hacking sites and information sources like this. I have also attended various " Training " sessions that would prove of little help when it comes to the conundrum I have concerning the streaming local media.
First off let me tell you this straight forward in case anyone is wondering. Unless you do a root job on this device you will NOT be able to stream direct to your device... if you do not know what that is either do some research or just keep reading.
There have been a couple different programs that have come out that allowed the user to send the media to the tv but google has since closed that option by " coding " it out with software updates.
The recent most useful application that I have found is " realplayer cloud ". You upload your content ( takes any and all lengths that I have found so far ) and then after you upload it you can then cast it to your tv. It also optimizes the video which is nice. You can also purchase more space for more video if you so chose. I have various videos from camping, weddings, parties and what not and have not used up my space yet.
As I continue towards learning new and more useful techniques with this device I will be sure to let you know.
